In July of 1995, Jerry Barber and his family moved to Charlotte from Chicago in order to begin Harvest Community Church. Four families joined them in the exciting adventure of planting a church based on Biblical principles in a creative and relevant setting. In October, 1995, the core group started meeting for Sunday services in a home. By the end of that year, the nucleus had grown to the point where public services were possible, and began meeting February 11, 1996, at Alexander Middle School in Huntersville, the first of several temporary meeting places during the first few years of church life.
In 2000, 26 acres of beautiful land with frontage on Eastfield Rd. was donated to Harvest, Phase 1 of the church campus was constructed, and on June 9, 2002, we held our first Worship service. Thanks to growth in attendance at this worship service, in December 2007 we launched a second Sunday morning service (8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.).
Harvest is an evangelical church, meaning that we derive our beliefs from the Bible, which serves as our ultimate guide for all faith and practice. We believe the Bible to be God's Word, fully true in all that it affirms. All of our teaching and preaching is designed to be based on the Bible and to demonstrate how its principles apply to contemporary life.Harvest is also a community church, unaffiliated with a denomination (many refer to this as "nondenominational"). We believe that we can best serve this area by inviting and encouraging people from various church backgrounds to join together in our community of faith. In belief and practice, we are most similar to an association of churches known as the Evangelical Free Church of America.
